Cobscook Institute and The Community Caring Collaborative are two Washington County nonprofits that center their work on social connection and collab-oration. They have very different missions yet share a commitment to enhancing quality of life in the region by building relationships that help get things done.
Thirty-three players came out for the MLK Day Chess Tournament at the Cobscook Institute in Trescott on Monday, January 15, 2024. Rafi Hopkins won the Open section with a perfect score of 3.0 points in three games.
Cobscook Experiential Program students joined hundreds of teens from across the state earlier this month to participate in the annual Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN) Leadership Conference. MYAN’s works to support youth leadership related to social justice, restorative practices, and public health, and to support adult organizations in using “positive youth development and social-emotional learning principles in their work with youth.”
“Giving to Cobscook is giving to family,” is what one community member posted on Facebook this past Giving Tuesday, a sort of unofficial national holiday where non-profits like us let our community know how important their financial support is for the work that we do and the people that we serve.
Days of Learning is a new thrice annual confluence launching in 2023/24 to better support Gen Z & Alpha Generations by improving our cultural competency around civil rights issues.
A partnership with Cobscook Institute in Lubec, Maine has resulted in two new chess tournaments being added to the Maine chess event calendar.

While we've had a rainy June so far, the clouds cleared just in time for the Downeast Pride celebration in Eastport and Lubec last weekend.
Last weekend, Cobscook Institute board and staff members met on our campus to celebrate another year of work with two days of joyful and creative collaboration that included meals, outdoor games, and structured team-building, as well as many useful sessions to finalize our new strategic plan.
We celebrated its thirteenth annual commencement and end of year ceremony on June 6th, 2023.
