Description
The Vining Lake Community Preserve is a 406-acre property surrounding a pristine 27-acre lake. It offers a diverse mix of riparian, wetland and upland forest habitats with areas of granite outcroppings.
The preserve has not been birded extensively and this field outing is a first for the Festival. Fundy Audubon walks have seen Hooded and Common Merganser, Spotted Sandpiper, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Waterthrush, and River Otter in the lake and surrounding wetlands.
Birds in wooded areas include Blue-headed and Red-eyed Vireo, Least Flycatcher, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Pileated Woodpecker, Hermit Thrush, Broad-winged and Sharp-shinned Hawk, and 12 species of warblers.
Since we will walk about 1 mile on trails and gravel roads, wear good walking shoes and bring insect repellant.
