Chip Darmstadt
FlyAway Birding

Chip first realized he was a birder during a college geology camp in Wyoming, when he spent way more time watching Calliope Hummingbirds and Golden Eagles than measuring rock formations. He went on to do avian field work in Ontario, Costa Rica and Venezuela, eventually settling down to direct the North Branch Nature Center in Vermont for over two decades. In between writing grants and running staff meetings, Chip found time to band Northern Saw-whet Owls, mentor teen birders through the World Series of Birding and lead birding walks, workshops, and international trips.

Now as co-owner of FlyAway Birding, Chip is organizing and leading birding trips around the world. Whether it’s a local trip in Vermont to look for Spruce Grouse or an adventure in Colombia seeking out antpittas, Chip loves sharing the joy of birds with other birders.
